Technical Field Engineer

 

 

Dominion Metallurgical (DOM-MET), has an opening for a Technical Field Engineer at its Roanoke Virginia office. The successful candidate should have working knowledge of metal parts manufacturing and casting processes. Candidate must be a hands-on problem solver.

 

Position Highlights:
  • Work directly with customers to ensure metal components are designed for optimal manufacturability

  • Assess and recommend optimal manufacturing process or metallurgical options for prototyping to production

  • Troubleshoot part quality issues and work with our foundry and machining facilities to achieve desired results.

  • Perform audits of off-site foundries and other suppliers

  • Work with and support account managers by providing technical expertise to assist their sales efforts

 

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of engineering solutions to help drive profitability,

  • Knowledge of Ferrous and non-ferrous casting process,

  • Experience in Defect analysis of castings,

  • Experience with nondestructive examinations of metal parts (Visual, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, Radiography, and Ultrasonic testing),

  • Excellent communication skills in order to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences,

  • Effective personal organization skills,

  • Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Engineering, and

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Metallurgical / Materials Engineer

Position Highlights:

The Materials Engineer will be a central figure in ensuring the quality, reliability, and technical success of our products by assisting in managing supplier relationships and providing expert customer support.

Supplier & Quality Management

  • Supplier Vetting & Management: Assist in the qualification of new suppliers while maintaining strong relationships with existing partners.

  • Audits & Assurance: Assist in quality assurance activities and supplier audits to ensure compliance with material specifications and performance standards.

  • Defect Analysis: Perform quality defect analysis and root cause investigations for materials and product failures.

  • Quality Program Ownership: Assist our Quality Manager in administrating our quality and warranty program, driving continuous improvement in product reliability.

Technical Expertise & Customer Support

  • Technical Resource: Serve as a technical resource for Account Managers, our Sales Team, and external customers.

  • Technology: Serve as a driver to take our company into leading edge manufacturing technologies.  Attend technology seminars and conferences.

  • Problem Resolution: Support our Technical Field Engineers in facilitating the resolution of complex customer quality concerns and field failure analysis.

  • Project & Sales Support: Support new product launches by collaborating on material specifications and provide technical support for sales efforts, including attendance at trade shows and conferences. 

  • Laboratory Management: Function as the in-house and external lab manager, overseeing testing procedures and material analysis.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.

  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build rapport with suppliers and customers.

  • A strong desire for continuous learning and professional development.

  • Willingness to travel domestically (and potentially internationally) for supplier audits, trade shows, and customer visits.

While foundry experience is not a must, a strong technical foundation in foundry processes,  metallurgy and materials is important.

Account Manager with Foundry Experience

Dominion Metallurgical (DOM-MET), a growing company with an innovative business model, has several outstanding foundry account management opportunities. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge and experience of foundry technology, quality systems, and machining of castings to develop solutions with customers. The ideal candidate will be an inquisitive problem solver with strong customer-facing experience, either as a business development professional, sales executive, or account manager.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Utilize your foundry experience in a self-directed environment

  • Develop, strengthen and maintain long-term relationships with existing and new customers

  • Coordinate value-added services with suppliers for customers

  • Prepare sales forecasts, quotes, and negotiation strategies

  • Work with Client and Supplier Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel

  • Work with customers to retain and grow accounts (No cold-calling necessary)

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least 10 years in foundry or machining of ferrous and non-ferrous materials

  • Casting experience as a representative, account manager, sales executive, or business development professional

  • Casting/foundry processes and machining proficiency

  • Ability to work in Roanoke, Virginia

  • Associate's Degree or higher education

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE:
  • Basic computer skills and functional proficiency in MS Office

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written

  • Well organized, a strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently

  • Candidates should be comfortable working with C-level executives, middle management, engineers, and front-line employees
